At My Journey SLT, we understand that supporting a child’s
speech, language, and communication development involves collaboration between
therapists, schools, and parents.
We offer a range of services and resources to
ensure that children receive the comprehensive support they need to thrive.
Below, you'll find information about the services we provide and additional
resources that can be accessed for further support.
Our Services
For Schools:
• In-School Therapy Sessions: We provide on-site therapy sessions tailored to the needs of individual students.
• Staff Training: Professional development workshops and training sessions on topics such as Gestalt Language Processing, supporting Autistic students, and effective communication strategies.
• Consultation Services: Ongoing consultation to help schools implement effective communication support strategies and integrate them into daily activities.
• Resource Provision: Access to a range of resources, including aided language boards and AAC systems, to support classroom learning.
For Parents:
• Initial Assessments: Comprehensive evaluations to identify your child’s strengths and areas for improvement.
• Therapy Sessions: Regular, individualised therapy sessions tailored to your child’s specific needs.
• Parent Training: Workshops and training sessions to equip parents with the skills and knowledge to support their child’s communication development at home.
• Resources: Provision of tools and materials, such as aided language boards, to facilitate communication at home.

BBC's Tiny Happy People
Tiny Happy People provides a wealth of activities and tips to help parents develop their child’s communication skills from birth to age five. The resources are designed to be fun and engaging, making learning enjoyable for both parents and children.

Speech and Language UK offers information and resources for parents and professionals to support children with speech and language needs. They provide guidance on identifying SLCN and strategies to support communication development.

Communication Development Centre
The Communication Development Center Communication Development Center was founded by Marge Blanc, creator of The Natural Language Acquisition framework; a framework for describing the stages of Gestalt Language Development. Her website has a wealth of information and resources on Gestalt Language Development including videos and links to research.

West Sussex Libraries
Toy Library Toy libraries - West Sussex County Council: West Sussex libraries offer a toy library service where parents can borrow educational toys that promote language and communication development.

NHS Services
Accessing NHS Speech and Language Therapy services can be done through a referral from your GP or health visitor, and many services accept referral from parents. You can contact your local NHS SLT team or speak to your child’s educational setting for more information.

Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
The RCSLT provides extensive resources for both professionals and the public, including guidelines on best practices and information on various communication disorders.
We recommend that all of our parents apply for Disability
Living Allowance (DLA) for their child if they are eligible.
